SketchBox: Art Supplies You Never Knew You Needed
A couple months ago, I started to try out sketching and watercolors. I found so many resources online and (of course) on Pinterest that I have projects for months. What I wasn’t sure of was what supplies I should get or where to start. That’s when I found SketchBox. Read on for details, and for a video showing the October 2019 Premium Box!
But What Is It?
I had been turned on to the idea of a subscription service by my husband, who signed up for a retro video game subscription service a while back. I wondered if there was an art supplies service…and what do you know? There is!
SketchBox is a monthly art supply subscription service. They deliver around the first of the month, and offer two plans, a Basic Box and a Premium Box. At the time of this post, the basic box is $25 per month and the Premium Box is $35, both plus tax. The Premium Box has more expensive materials in it.
They ship to the US, Canada, and several other countries around the globe – you can find out more in their FAQ, here. You can also gift a subscription, if you have any budding artists in your family or circle of friends!
Why I Love It
First, it’s so cool to get a box with a bunch of surprises in it! It’s almost like Christmas once a month! Second, everything I’ve gotten so far is something I never would have known to get for myself. It offers me a way of trying out new techniques and media without investing a lot of money before I know if I’ll even like it.
I also like that they offer a How To video for each box. When you’re not sure what to do with the supplies you get, you can watch the how to video to get ideas and to learn how to use what you got.
And What’s In It?
I signed up for the Premium Box, and I’ve received two boxes thus far. Last month’s box had some watercolor pencils and other pencil-type supplies. This month, the theme was ink art!
Here’s a video of the October 2019 SketchBox premium box. I’m looking forward to trying each of the goodies out!
Please note I’m not an affiliate or anything for SketchBox. I just thought they offer a great service for a great value and wanted to share it with you!
